Games Like Age of History 3: Lead a Civilization or Start as a Citizen?

Age of History 3 and Leviathan War both put politics, resources, and war on a map. The biggest difference is the role you play. Age of History 3 lets you lead a civilization across historical eras. Leviathan War starts you as one citizen in a modern, shared world where leadership depends on other players.

This is a guide from the Leviathan War team, not an independent review or an affiliation with Age of History 3. The comparisons below use the developer’s Steam description for Age of History 3 and Leviathan War’s linked game guides for our own rules.

The question here is not which map is bigger: it is whether you want to direct a civilization or build influence among citizens.

Stay with Age of History 3 for a civilization campaign

Section titled “Stay with Age of History 3 for a civilization campaign”

If you like assembling armies, developing technology, choosing buildings, and guiding one civilization through different eras, Age of History 3 is designed for that. Its Steam description details a technology tree, dozens of unit types, manpower, resources, reforms, and a long historical timeline. Leviathan War does not reproduce that historical campaign or put a civilization under your command on day one.

In Leviathan War, the map is shared. A state needs people to work, produce, trade, vote, organize parties, and participate in military actions. You can build a business or seek office, but other players can hire elsewhere, vote against you, or fight on the opposite side. The world continues between your sessions.

For your first session, follow Your First Steps: claim the daily reward, take a factory shift, and inspect your state. The elections guide explains residency, party, and experience requirements before you try to vote or run. You may find no active war or election in your state when you join; player activity varies.

Leviathan War is free to start. Optional Emerald purchases and PRO provide gameplay benefits. If citizen politics sounds more interesting than commanding a civilization, start playing Leviathan War.
